The map posted at www.castlebar.ie/oldmaps.htm (circa 1911 ?) shows a race course on the west side of the Galway road just past Saleen Lake. The race course does not appear on a 1" = 1 mile Ordnance Survey/geological map from 1870. Neither does it appear on a 6" = 1 mile Ordnance Survey map, surveyed in 1893-99 BUT REVISED in 1913-17. This would indicate the race course was built sometime after 1870 and did not survive past 1913-17.
