Yep - I too remember Brennan's quite well. I remember going in there many times with me Ma for paint or something like that.
Like all other small shops in small towns all over the world, its demise (And that of Mulloys in Newtown - which survived till 1982) came about with the arrival in town of the big boys like Heitons and Chadwicks (and in the UK; Homebase and B&Q and here Home Depot and Lowes)
