RTEs recent expose on Padraig Pearse lends one to question our "heroes" of
yesteryear.To call a team in Castlebar after him now seems totally inappropiate especially a team of young boys.
Similarily the choice of Robert Emmett as a icon for children is questionable as his final act in this world seems unworthy of heroism.
Not wishing to cast any aspersions on Archbishop Mc Hale but would you in
2001 chose a member of the Catholic church as a role model.
Its left to our own unimpeachable Michael Davitt to stand head and shoulders above the rest yet the Davitts themselves seem unworthy of his
name as they failed to have challenged the allegations of playing overage
players in their teams.Surely we can expect an answer ?.
What names therefore would be appropiate for these teams now.How about
Pearses :Commercials
Emmetts :Sundowners
Mc Hales :HironsLowurns
Davitts : Suburbs
