According to an article in the Mayo News of August 21, 1948, Mrs. Atlee and her two daughters climbed the Reek on Thursday August 17. On descending they were met by Mr. Atlee who came by car. On Saturday the Atlees again visited Murrisk and lunched at Old Head Hotel with Mr. Séan McBride, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Dr. Noel Browne, Minister of Health; Mrs. Browne; Mr. J Garvey of Murrisk Abbey and a Mrs. Bevis. Aferwards the party went for a swim at Old Head and later took a drive through Connemara. That evening they dined at Murrisk Abbey, the residence of Mr. Garvey, with whom Séan McBride was staying.
