Great effort by everyone on this subject. My Daughter has to present a term paper on "Irish Culture" to morrow , I have printed out your efforts for her to read ,as our "culture" is no doubt a result of that which we (Irish People or any other peoples) have experienced.Would it be true to say that history is everything that we have experienced and culture an outward manifistation of that experience. Reading her rough draft I was critical that it was too historical, but she argues that the connection is umbilical. And before i go to my Oxford ,I post. There is a fine author in Castlebar whose name I fail to remember, in spite of the fact that his works have been lauded by "The Times" who wrote a novel some years ago dealing with rebellion in Mayo and describes in grim detail the effects of rabid and cold hunger on our distant fellow Irishmen,Women, and children in County Mayo during those bleak years. It remain now for me to to be bailed out with an author and title from one of you learned chaps or lassies. I gave the book away to my friend Hugh Brennan from Oram.
