There used to be four junior GAA football teams
in Castlebar: the Emmets, the Davitts, the Pearses and
one other whose name escapes me. Skipper did a stint
as captain of the Emmets, and did very well too as I recall.
This would be around the time we were altar servers, and a few years before we joined the group of
boys from Inter Cert. and Leaving Cert. who used to
go the the convent, before exam time, to watch grainy old Shakesperean
films in a rustling, snickering, often embarrassed
darkness. Memories memories.
