Years ago a Kerry school teacher named Eamon Kelly created the character of the seanchaí on RTÉ. One of his stories was about a priest coming to visit a remote cottage for the stations and bringing with him an umbrella something the locals had never seen before. He left the open umbrella in the house to dry during the stations and left without it afterwards. The family didn't know what to do with the umbrella as it was too big to take out through the door. As the story unfolds, the priest returns for the umbrella and finds the cottage owner has just about destroyed the front of the house in an attempt to create a space large enough to allow the removal of the umbrella. With a smirk he takes the umbrella, turns his back on the people, quickly collapses it, strides through the door and opens it again. The cottage owner turns to his fellows, shakes his head and says " I don't care what yiz say they have the power"!
