Wel the end of an era has come to Castlebar. The county cinema is about to reach the end of it's days. This building should have been saved and designated as a heritage site because of the joy and the thrills it held for numerous youngsters and adults alike during the dark days in Castlebar. I could personally write a book on the memories I hold from that "sacred" place. The personalities who worked there. The county cinema was the place we used to got to to escape the reality of the poverty we were living in. We were able to escape to the "wild west of america" or to the exotic locations around the world, which to us at that time in our lives were "only a dream".

It will be a very sad day in Castlebar when the bulldozers move in to start the demolition of such a "grand and beautiful old building" If only those walls could talk.

Even though I now live in Canada I will be sad to hear that the County cinema is no longer a landmark of that beautiful town of Castlebar.
