To the best of my knowledge and I am open to correction, Joe McHugh died in the last decade. The pub is now run by one of the victorious Clare Hurling team (Sparrow O'Loughlin I think).
Joseph McHughs was akin to Johnnies - without the posh lino. The place was full of singing birds (the feathered kind) and with the ensuing smell. The place was also a mecca for coursing people, Joe being an avid follower.
Like Johnnies it became a trendy watering hole and the new clientele were greeted by Joe in the same fashion as a Meath footballer might be greeted in Mick Byrnes.
If ever in Clare call in, it's not the same but a great pub none the less.
