Ah Murrisk, should I forget to get on my knees on this or any other morning to thank the good Lord for another day. Recently I found this poem on a piece of foolscap handwritten. The author I do not know. It was written in very old english at first and transalated by my good friend Bill Savage who is only alive to-day by the grace of God after his car jack failed and the car he was working on underneath fell on top of him he was spared by a miracle. Here then is the VERSE as written. I THAT WAS IN WELLNESS AND GLADNESS.AM TROUBLED NOW WITH GREAT SICKNESS AND FEEBLE WITH INFIRMITY, OUR PRESENCE HERE IS ALL VAIN GLORY, THIS FALSE WORLD IS BUT TRANSITORY ,THE FLESH IS WEAK,THE MIND DOTH FLEE. THE STATE OF MAN DOTH CHANGE AND VARY. NOW SOUND,NOWSICK,NOW BLITHE,NOW SORRY.NOW DANCE AND BE MERRIE, LIKE TO THEE.. NO STATE OF MIND? HERE STANDS SICKER AS WITH THE WIND,WAVES THE WICKER, WAVES THIS WORLDLY VANITY. ON TO THE DEAD GO ALL ESTATES, PRINCES,PRELATES,AND PONTIATES,BOTH RICH AND POOR OF ALL DEGREE. HE SPARES NO LORD FOR HIS PATIENCE,NO CLERK FOR HIS INTELLIGENCE, HIS AWFULL STRIKE MAY NO MAN FLEE. SOON HE HAS (OR WILL HAVE) ALL MY BROTHERS TAKEN, HE WILL NOT LET ME LIVE ALONE, I WILL BE HIS NEXT VICTIM.
