The little stone house at the steps up to the mall from Rock Square was the non catholic school house in the 1830's. I assume this is the mall school that is referred to. The methodist meeting hall was also well established on the mall at that time. The catholic school and the old catholic church were together on the site of the current catholic church built in 1901 (the catholic emancipation act was passed in 1829 and 'the scheme of primary education' was instituted in 1831).
