What John Hoban would call "Auld Castlebar Stock" J.D.P. Don't forget the Queen herself, Pat Mahoney, regally swathed in fur uppers, and hat, an eternal cigarette dangling from those rouge laden lips. And of course my cat "Lucky" black shiny fur, with four white shoes . It was decided that I was unable to take care of him, and he was taken to the bacon factory to live out his days. Ensconsed in the galvinised building across from the main entrance where Mrs. Mahoney had her office. Lucky quickley found out that across the street was a goldmine that made his stipend in the bowl paltry by comparision .All he could eat whenever he liked, when I saw him next he had gained a lot of weight. A few months later he was killed crossing the road his gait obviously slowed down, unable to spring to freedom. I had another black cat some five years ago, that I gave to my Daughter ,also named "Lucky!", that mysteriously disapeared on Halloween eve. "All things wise and wonderfull - All things Great and Small- All things Bright and Beautiful- the Lord God made them All" Cecil Frances Alexander (1818-1895.Helen still talks about the cat, hopefully he was taken in by some kind old Lady who WAS IN NEED OF A FRIEND. O' course the poor ould pig is slaughtered to hell and gone, both metaphorically and physically; "why you dirty ould pig" "fat as a pig" " eat like a pig" "smell like a pig" I hear they are an intelligent animal. whon knows the IQ of the most intelligent animal? and who remembers the name of the pig that to belonged to the Ziffles in "Green Acres" It just came to me but i'll keep it under my hat and see if anybody cares, why after all it's just "a pig". Gene Siskel just before he passed onwards R.I.P., voted "Babe" pig in the city", his number one movie choice of 1998!agus mise freisin. And lastly who can not forget a familiar sight in days gone by?. You might have been touring in Killarney ,or sightseeing in Gallway, when you waved madly at a friend! driving a yellow and black mini- bus with the words "CASTLEBAR SAUSAGES"- "BEST IN THE WORLD", emblazoned across the sides. From Belfast to Cork they covered the "Emerald Isle" selling sausages, rashers, black pudding, and white pudding!. Maybe he was'nt your friend, but you waved anyway, and if you were lucky to see him twice in one day on a stretch of road between Murrisk and Moscow, then he WAS your friend, recognition closing the boundaries, that have widened since the waters have passed beneath the bridge. For me tis an honour, and a privilege to be part of "The Auld Stock."
