Lovely piece Mavis. Borradruma and Derryharif bring back pleasant memories. I think there were great banks of turf there? I am intrigued by your statement "The school developed into a refugee school for townies with teacher problems from the early seventies". A bit after my time but what teachers and what students - but maybe its as well to say nothing.

I might argue as to where the best mushrooms grew but I still prefer mine cooked on a glowing sod of turf! An uncle of mine could get his dog to do just about anything he wanted and the dog was always sent alone to fetch the cows for milking. Some people have the magic like Jimmy McLaughlin and Pop.

There is a lovely song by Mike Newby on last Saturday's Ceili House called 'The Days of Childhood Dreams'. The session was recorded at Ciarán's Bar in Ennis and is available as an audio file at:-
