I was cautious about posting anything on this lady as I thought she was still with us.
Which was worse - fear of the actual injection, the silence of Doc. Duignan or the fear of Nurse Irwin patrolling the line swishing the cane ?
It must be difficult, for anyone who was`nt a recipient of school vaccinations in the early 60s. to beleive this.
I once recall a hearing test being conducted on the stage in the assembly hall. The victim stood on one side of an apparatus, out of sight of the dials, head phones in place. NI turned a dial or pretended to. " DID you hear a noise" " yes nurse" "YOU did`nt" " I think I did nurse" "DID you hear a noise now" " yes nurse" " WAS it loud" " no nurse" " IT was"..... and on it went. We were nervous wrecks going up on that stage for our sound audition conducted by the nurse with the cane.
