The Dead House was located in the grounds of the Hospital at the Infantry Barracks, Castlebar, here the remains of soldiers were removed from their quarters, due to death from natural causes, illness, or place of accident accident to await preperation for burial.
At the moment I am working on compiling a book on the British Regiments that served through Mayo, and was myself, a serving soldier in Castlebar barracks till my early retirement after 21 and a half years service 1997. Now living in Germany.
