Caitlín Maude

1941-1982; poet, actress and singer; b. Doiriú, Casla, Co. Galway [Connemara Gaeltacht]; ed. at UCG; taught in Ireland and London, 1962-1969; acting at UCG and with An Taibhdhearc and Damer theatres; Máire in Damer production of Mairéad Ní Ghráda’s An Triail (1964); recording of sean nós singing, Caitlín (1975), was produced by Gael-Linn; short fiction and articles; play with Michael Hartnett (An Lasair Choille); Ciarán Ó Coigligh, ed., Dánta (1984) [collected poems], active in the Gaelic civil rights movement in the 1970s; supported the Long Kesh hunger-strikers, writing an elegy on the death of Bobby Sands, ‘I m’áit dhú chais ó thuaidh’; there is an elegy by Michael O’Siadhail.

Also, lived and taught in Tallaght. Scoil Chaitlin Maude in Tallaght is named for her.
