Your memory is excellent and accurate. The
co(fada)fra was also called, in Birdie's class,
and maybe even in Gussie's, an siopa. I may
have missed a fada. Gussie's long cane was a
good introduction for Bro. George's in the secondary
school. And the memory of footing turf outside
the class 6 school room. And speaking of distinctive
smells - remember the toilets!!
In the old national school which burned down, the
6th class was on the top floor. The occupants
were called The Bombers and the infants and
youger classes were always released for lunch etc
before The Bombers came pounding down the stairs.
