Recently, I was looking at clippings from the Connaught Telegraph from September 1964. The Westport court briefs from September 11, 1964, were enlightening:- * no rear white light on a vehicle 10/- * no red rear light on a bicycle 15/- * unlighted bicycle 15/- * exceeding the speed limit by 10 mph £2 * exceeding the speed limit by 6 mph 10/- * parking more than 10 inches from the kerb 10/- * drunk and incapable 10/-. The garda who 'proved the offence' said it was a fair day and the defendant gave no trouble. * drunk/disorderly and in charge of a child under 7 years £1 I'm guessing, but I think most salaries/yearly incomes were under £3,000 or £4,000 in 1964 ??? Any of our readers willing to tell about the fines they incurred for unlighted bicycles etc ??
