Don't people ever learn. The problems of drainage and pollution are not new. As early as the 1960's, and certainly by the 1970's, these problems afflicted lakes in the midlands such as Derravaragh and Sheelin, and in the north Lough Neagh. In 1978, slightly elevated mercury levels were detected in plaice and dab, and in mussels from Dublin Bay, Dundalk and Galway Bay.
