You are so kind MM, like Lavelle's bread the best in the west! Now, back to Burleigh House. The news is not good. Had news from cousin Aidan Nally, (aka Pop when he went to school in Castlebar, same class as Joe Hamrock, Newtown, ex CIE). According to Aidan, who was born in Burleigh House, the Murphy family, Thomas Snr. hailed from Cuddagh, a little village ourside Castletown, Co. Laois, and his wife Annie Hoban from Newport Road, moved into Burleigh House before WW1. They had 3 children, Johanna, still alive in Tullamore, Co. Offaly (96 years young!) Bella (married Pat Nally, Garda from Ballyglunin, Co. Galway) and Thomas,(married Sue O'Beirne from Ballinamore Co. Leitrim). Bella and Thomas are no longer living. The Murphy's sold Burleigh House to Frank & Nancy O'Brien in the early forties and moved to two adjoining houses at The Green. I think I heard it said before that the price was just less than £4,000. I know its not much about the history of the actual building, but sure don't you now know more about the occupants!
