The reg plates were really quite simple to figure out! The system was based on a 32 county Ireland and the plates were as follows, with just a few exceptions: IA = Antrim, IB = Armagh, IC = Carlow, ID=Cavan, IE Clare, IF Cork(?), (no IG!) IH Donegal, IK Down (?) IL Fermanagh, IM Galway, IN Kerry, IO Kildare, IP Kilkenny, IR Offaly, IS Dublin (?) IT Leitrim, IU Limerick(?) Now I did state that there were etions, mainly in relation to the cities of Dublin, Cork, Limerick and maybe Waterford. Anybody out there who can complete the lot? I kmow the first car I had was a Ford Escort estate in 1972, Reg. 9445 Z and you had to make sure you parked on a slope, with the passenger side higher than the driver's side, otherwise, you had a bucket of water at your feet in the morning!
