The old house opposite the turnoff for Islandeady ? Used to be known as Matthew Fahy's or in the quick parlance 'maa-de-fehy'. Further along on the Westport side, and on the right hand side of the road, there used to be a little confectionary and petrol pump. Still further along on the right hand side was Johhn FitzGerald's - killed when struck by a speeding car. On the Castlebar side is the school outside of which Fr. Tony O'Toole was killed when struck by a speeding car. I think Bob Kilkelly also died when struck by a car on this streatch of road ?
