The carnivals I remember were held at the Military Barracks, and there was at least one held at Market Square, there were a few on The Mall. I don't recall any around the Charles Street area.
JDP is correct, the carnival which visited Castlebar was owned by the Perks from Youghal, and I think they still have an amusement arcade there. Along with the parents in the family, a son and daughter John L. and Stella always came with the entourage to Castlebar.
The golf club and boxing club used to benefit from the proceeds (and maybe some more clubs) and used to supply the extra local "manpower" to help run the show.
