I think they were connected with the Walking Festival ceremonies.
Recently, an American friend whose family were home on holidays in suumer `69 told me that the last memory of that holiday was of neighbours kids dressing up for the chess game.
The only participant I know was Ger Gavin of Knockthomas. Any other participanrs out there? Was the Queen male or female?
Any memories of the first Walking Fest. Ceremonies on the Mall. There were free crubeens for all, most of which became dangerous missiles.
A full ox was roasted on a spit under the direction of Paddy Jennings R.I.P. and portions of roast beef were later sold for ten bob through a window of the Imperial.
Remember the line of flags along the centre path.
