A school project is a great idea. It would help teach the children about their town while at the same time preserving the information.

A more advanced project could include a topographic or airphoto map of the town which, when the cursor is placed over a selected point, would display the historical data for that point. The same idea is used in the Virtual Tour of Castlebar. For example, if the cursor is placed over the the new housing development at Jacko's field, or over Lough Lannanagh, or over McHale Park, all of the old photos, reminiscences, and historical data would be displayed or links to the data would be shown. The data exists, much of it on the NB. I t would be a shame if it is lost. Maybe the Chamber could sponsor such a compilation perhaps through the secondary school or maybe the RTC. I think it would be a fascinating advertisement for Castlebar and district.
