Well winter must be coming and life gets boring. Took out my back issues of the "Parish Magazine" and here is a little trivia from 1975.
In 1920 the Castlebar Urban Council made changes to some street names, prior to the changes some streets read like this:
Humbert St, McBride St, Teeling St, Wm. Rooney St. De Barry St. Church St. Upper, Church St. Lower, '98 Street Upper, '98 Street Lower, O'Reilly St, Sarsfield St. Fr. Conroy's Green, Casement Square, Pearse St, Patrick St. Ross Sq. James Connolly St. Davis St. McHale St. Lord Edward St. Wolfe TOne St. Upper and Wolfe Tone St. Lower. Have a guess. Will post new listings by the weekend. Another item mentioned that year under ordinations and appointments, Dr. Kieran Downes, Westport Road, on receiving his Ph.D in Geology.
