Maybe the old names prevailed because the people preferred to refer to streets and squares by their original names. Old habits die hard.Street name plates were first erected in the town in the 70`s ( 1970`s)
Republican sentiment is the most likely reason for the attempted change. In hindsight it seems like part of a "year zero" motion.
Could narrow lane have been the lane linking Ellison St. with Shambles/Market Sq. ?
