From downtown Castlebar, on this dull, dreary and very misty Monday afternoon, a very happy Christmas to all Nostalgia Board posters MM, Jean, Murrisk, UTP, JDP (you never called last week!), Butch (where art thou?), Max (probably up to his oxters in stuffin' and doing what Cathy tells him)and everybody at the Chamber Head Office and I wish you all well for the coming year 2003.
By the way, for you who will always be older than moi, I just finished reading a very enjoyable book called "Goodnight, God Bless & Safe Home", published a few months ago by O'Brien Press. It is a terrific history of the showband era in Ireland from late fifties to early seventies. It recounts all the bands in Ireland by county and all the ballrooms. It's a light read but most enjoyable and boy did those bands earn serious money back then. For dancers of that era, I was still in short pants (remember them, nobody wears them now!, it will certainly bring back lots of memories with talk of Pontoon, Belclare, Starlight, Pavilion, Islandeady, Royal, Belcarra, Ballyhaunis, Claremorris, Charlestown, Kiltimagh .....and that's just Mayo.
