Never liked the library. The worn green lino
the untidy mess of books falling over,
the loose dust covers and the dirty worn
pages were aturn off.Biggles I tried and
got to the end of chapter 1 .
My library was the Hotspur,Hornet and later
the Victor which had a lot more reading.
These comics inspired our Cavalry charges
at the Point fort when we chased injuns
along the over the wooden bridge into the
wood allthe way to the diving board. The
graveyard was outside of our set as it didnt
blend into our Wild West antics.
Later we might head off to the Mall and be
Brazilians in the World Cup and play for hours.
On one unrepeated occasion the scissies who
didnt play football dared us into a mud fight
in the grounds of Spencer Park. They placed
a spy in atree between Simms and O neills
hoping to spring an ambush but one of our
cavalry scouts spotted him.
Our troop headed off up Spencer St for a rear
attack and caught Ger Lally up a tree unawares.
We pelted him with mud balls and scraws but
stopped not because he was being hurt but
he was laughing so much he nearly fell out
of the tree.
After forces were joined and much hilarity
we captured the prize of the day,Shay Kavanaghs
Monkee hat which was kicked all the way back
down to the Mall.
