The old custom of strewing Mayflowers around the front doors of houses has been revived in Castlebar and other areas in recent times. This is a grand old custom and should not be allowed to die out. Usually the Mayflowers are put out on the eve of St.Joseph's Day, May 1st, a recognised day the world over for workers. Mayflowers are usually found in marshy ground and there are lots of them in fields around Castlebar and other towns. So remember to put them out on Wednesday night.
