Thanks for the information, Johnny, about Bridgie Lappard. I didn't know she lived in the ditch in the Pound Road at the time of Francie Philbin. But now that you've mentioned the bould Francie, I recall in my childhood two other people who resided near Francie's hovel - a Michael Martin and a Catherine Murtagh. Catherine, God be good to her, was very partial to the drop and spent many an evening seated on the rocks across from Neely's at the bottom of Gallows Hill, in, shall we say, an advanced state of intoxication. Do you know anything of these two people, Johnny? I often think of those poor innocent men who fought with the British Army in the first World War and the way they were treated by their own neighbours and townspeople when they came home. But thats another story for another day, I suppose.
