St Mary's (the hospital)was so enclosed when I was growing up.The high wall surrounding it made it appear that there was no way in or out.Mental illness was a stigma, not to be discussed. The only time I ever remember being inside those walls was for some kind of Arts and Craft Fair, held outside of the building.I honestly never knew there was a church there until my brother took me up to see the RTC buildings and showed me the church.I think just like the Sacred Heart Home which always had a chapel, was used not only by patients and staff, but by residents who live close to it,including my own mother who probably never frequents the Parish church for Mass anymore.St Mary's(the church)is a beautiful little church and appears to have been left undisturbed during all the changes during Vatican II.I think its a shame what was done to churches in the name of modernization in the Church in the 60s.The saddest one to me was the total gutting and rebuilding of the church in Cong.Yes the new churches are nice and modern and we do have to move on but !!!!!!!!!!
