Christmas Decoration Competition 2008

Once again the Environment Section of Mayo County Council hosted the annual Christmas Decoration presentations at the Headquarters of Mayo County Council, Castlebar, on the 18th December, 2008.

The three County Winners were congratulated and complimented on their creativity by Mr. Joe Mellett, M.C.C., Cathaoirleach of Mayo who made a presentation to each winner.

The objective of this competition is to encourage primary students all over County Mayo to use recyclables and waste materials to create festive decorations.    All entries were displayed on the Christmas Tree which was located in the foyer of Mayo County Council Headquarters.    Mayo County Council thanks all the pupils throughout the County who submitted decorations this year and also to the teachers who work tirelessly throughout the entire year on waste reduction and litter management programmes in their schools.  We look forward to Christmas 2009 with even greater participation.

Winners:

• Ms. Saskia Langen Kelly, Holy Trinity N.S., Westport, with her "Christmas Santa".
• Ms. Laoise McNeela, Cloondaff N.S., Glenhest, Newport, with her "Christmas Tree Skirt".
• Mr. Nathan Delaney, Roxboro N.S., Ballinrobe, with "Alfie the Elf".
