Castlebar Racquetball Club

Racquetball was introduced into Ireland from the United States in the late 1970's and has since developed in with great success in many parts of the country. Castlebar Racquetball Club is a member of the Racquetball Association of Ireland and the European Racquetball Federation (www.tref.nl/zoetermeer/sprtraad/news.htm) and is one of the leading racquetball clubs in Ireland catering for over 75 male and female players ranging in age from 10 years old to 60 years old.

Racquetball is played in An Sportlann Castlebar which has two courts and St Geralds College Castlebar which has one court. Competitions and coaching for members are held in An Sportlann over the winter months September to April.

Castlebar Racquetball Club holds a major tournament in March of each year known as the Castlebar Open which is sponsored by Baxter Healthcare S.A. a leading company situated in Castlebar manufacturing health products.

The Castlebar Open attracts all the top players from Ireland to this event as well as players from Europe and the United States. Also hosted in Castlebar over recent years has been a number of National Championships under the auspices of the Racquetball Association of Ireland.

Castlebar players are to forefront of Irish Racquetball with a number of players taking National titles in recent years most notably Pat Gavin, Anne Lennon and Mick Jennings.
