My great grandfather, Michael Lydon born in Ireland, was married in England in 1907, but his marriage cert had father named as Stephen Lydon (deceased). After speaking with an elderly relative, we think Michael came from Castlebar, Co. Mayo. We think Michael may have came to England with his brother(s) but cant find a census for Stephen with Michael and brothers for 1901. Michael Lydon married Annie Blackburn and lived in Willington Quay, they had my grandmother Catherine Lydon who was named after Michael's sister. Still I cannot find any information in Ireland. Any help tracking census records would be appreciated. Any help with parish records for Castlebar appreciated too. Thanks Christine Waterson

Seeking any information on my Great Grandparents James Hart and Barbara Gaughan Born between 1840 and 1850 in county Mayo. I believe they may have been from the Belmullet area. They Had a son Owen b.1865 and a daughter Annie B.1872 who immigrated to the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania area in 1880. Any ideas would be helpful! Thanks

Maria McGrail, daughter of Dominick and Nora McGrail, born 1855, married Hugh Doyle, in Pittsburgh in 1882. Hugh’s 1st marriage was to Margaret McGrail who may have been Maria’s sister or 1st cousin. Both families were from Mayo. Hugh was from Islandeady parish but I’m not sure about Maria’s birthplace. A church marriage seems to suggests the same general area:

13 April 1843 Islandeady Parish Co Mayo
Dominick Mcgreal and Honor McTigue
No address no parents listed
Witness Patrick Murrey and Mary McTigue

I suspect this marriage took place in Islandeady because it was the bride’s parish. the groom may have been from nearby Kilmaclasser. Griffith’s Valuation 1855 has a Dominick McGreal in Rushbrook and Clooncanavan townlands. I assume Honor went to live with Dominick but the parish records for that parish pre-1870 were destroyed which is why no baptisms can be found. It is significant that Hugh and Maria Doyle’s first son William had a Sponsor named Ella McTighe. Any information welcome.

Hello, I am seeking anyone who might have any knowledge of the Macale family of County Galway and possibly surrounding counties. I have traced my ancestors back as far as 1744 to the Athenry / Monivea area. The name had that exact spelling from at least 1744 but seems to have gone extinct around the 1850s after some of the family emigrated to Australia. They were closely associated with the Ffrench, Eyre, Burke, Browne and Donelan families. Thanks!

My 2x great grandfather was Richard Lee Gallaher who was born in Castlebar in 1820, and died here in Canada in 1903. His father was Daniel Gallaher, and he had at least 2 brothers, Andrew and William.

Andrew was born about 1811, and may have married Martha Synnott in Westport in 1848.

William was born in 1827 and died in Crimea in 1854.

I am interested in connecting with any possible distant Gallaher relatives who might still be living in the Castlebar / Westport area.

My grandfather was born in Castlebar c1860 to Michael Sweeney (a Butcher - who possibly died in a fire?). James was possibly orphaned with his sister (name unknown) and recruited to British Army as a drummer boy (date he 'emigrated' unknown) . Married Sarah Tanner in London in 1898 and had 5 children. Would LOVE to know anything about the Sweeney family around 1860 in Castlebar! We're coming to visit in August, so please contact if you can be of any help!
