Castlebar Soccer

Soccer is very popular in Castlebar and there are a number of teams with Castlebar Celtic and Castlebar United being the major players on the Castlebar Soccer scene.

Castlebar Celtic grounds and club house are located near the swimming pool and tennis court on Pavilion Road. Celtic teams play in the Welcome Inn Hotel Mayo League.

Castlebar United is the other major soccer club in Castlebar currently playing in the Welcome Inn Mayo League (although it looks like they are going to be demoted from the Premier Division).

Soccer is also played behind St. Mary's and junior players tog out at Marion Row on Saturday mornings. In recent years the new grounds at Milebush have provided a top quality soccer pitch capable of hosting interprovincial matches.

Mr. Pat Quigley, President of the Football Association of Ireland is a resident of Castlebar.
