Ireland WU16s set for Welsh challenge

THE Republic of Ireland Women's U16 side will continue their development this weekend when they face two testing encounters in Wales.

Sharon Boyle's side are preparing for the UEFA Development Tournament in Hungary next month so these fixtures in Dragon Park, Newport, will prove very useful to their progress.

The UEFA Development tournament will see the Irish meet hosts Hungary, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Slovalkia.

"The focus is on the May development tournament in May so we're preparing for this and then looking to help to prepare for the next step to U17s next season," said Boyle.

"We welcome back Tegan Ruddy, Heather Payne and Sadbh Doyle from the U17s where they had a good campaign in the UEFA Qualifiers.

"You can see the influence that those three have brought to the group and the levels have improved in the sessions and hopefully it'll show in the games.

"We'll expect two very tough tests for the girls against Wales. For many of them it's their first time away trip as a group so naturally there's a lot of nerves but they'll benefit from the experience.

"Two of the girls Aoife Lynagh and Doireann Fahey played with the Irish Schools last week and did very well so we'll monitor their progress this weekend.

"We lost two players, Tyler Toland from Maiden City and Amy Boyle Carr from Donegal Town, both out with tonsillitis so that was unfortunate but it gives an opportunity for other players to show what they can do."
