Mayo International Cup Kicks Off in Earnest

The Mayo International Cup kicked off in earnest on Friday, with 3 enthralling encounters witnessed by the large crowd in the opening host venues of Milebush Park and Celtic Park, both in Castlebar.

In the opening game, the hosts, FAI Castlebar were comfortable 5-0 winners against Belfast outfit Glentoran. Aaron Mulaney and a brace each from Paul Doyle and Cathal Carney were on the scoresheet in an impressive victory.

In the penultimate game of the opening day, the tournaments English representatives faced off, as Millwall took on Bradford and Metropolitain District Schools. The West Yorkshire men emerged victorious on this occasion, with a clinical 4-0 result.

In the final game of the day, on the immaculate Celtic Park surface, FAI Castlebar played their second game, up against the Republic of Ireland U15 team. The hosts utilised their squad efficiently, and came out on top on a score line of 4-2. Martin Walsh netted a double, with Mark Hannon and the inform Cathal Carney completing the scoring. Adam Horgan and Trevor Clarke replied for the Republic of Ireland squad.

On Saturday, (24 Aug 2013) Manulla plays hosts to the Republic of Ireland v Glentoran at 10am, with FAI Castlebar taking on Bradford at 11.30am. The attention then turns to Ballyglass, with Millwall taking on Republic of Ireland at 2pm whilst Glentoran take on Bradford at 3.30pm. The final game of the day takes place in Belleek Park, home if Ballina Town FC, at 6.30pm, with FAI Castlebar facing Millwall.
