Galway WFC 1-2 UCD Waves

Played Saturday 8 Nov 2014

Castlebar Celtic 1-3 Raheny United

STRIKES from Claire O'Riordan and Kylie Murphy saw Wexford Youths Women AFC remain top of the Continental Tyres Women's National League.

Willie Doyle's troops picked up their third victory on the road this season with a 2-0 win over Cork City Women's FC in Bishopstown.

It took just nine minutes for Wexford to take the lead as Claire O'Riordan grabbed her fifth goal of the season.

Wexford keeper Mary Rose Kelly, fresh from winning Ladies GAA Junior Player's Player of the Year, produced a smart save to deny Ciara Desmond long range drive.

Cork City had their chances through Ciara Gilroy, Katie McCarthy, before Kylie Murphy pounced on 35 minutes to make it 2-0.

Wexford had the better of the second half with City's Ciara Desmond and Natalie Coughlan cleared off the line and keeper Trish Fennelly inspired.

Elsewhere, UCD Waves got back to winning ways with a hard-fought victory over Galway WFC in Eamonn Deacy Park.

Marie Curtin broke the deadlock for the hosts on the hour mark but Orlaigh Nolan struck back straight away with her fourth league goal of the season.

Rebekah Carroll nicked a win for the visitors with just 10 minutes remaining - leaving UCD Waves in third spot, three points behind Wexford Youths.

Meanwhile, Rebecca Creagh turned from hero to villain on Saturday night as champions Raheny United picked up their fifth victory of the season.

Raheny captain Creagh, who last Sunday lifted the FAI Continental Tyres Women's Senior Cup, opened the scoring for the Pandas after just four minutes.

Aisling Egan had Celtic on level terms 13 minutes later before the three time cup winners bagged two goals in a minute to settle the tie.

Lauren Dwyer grabbed her first goal of the season on 38 minutes, with Creagh bagging her second just 60 seconds later.

Creagh then turned villain picking up a second half red card in a game which was delayed due to injuries to Jess Nolan and Rachel King.

The Pandas move into second place in the table two points behind leaders Wexford with one game in hand.
