John Giles Foundation Grants

Four clubs from the Mayo League, have received grants from the John Giles Walk Foundation towards a project within their clubs:

 

  • Kiltimagh / Knock €1,500
  • Ballyglass FC, €1,000
  • Castlebar Celtic €1,500
  • Charlestown Ath €2,000.

 

This was the first year of the John Giles Foundation, Walk of Dreams, raising over €360,000-00 for Clubs and Communities, with the Foundation receiving €180,000-00 for spending on Community based football projects. The Foundation have allocated €100,000 (in the first phase) towards 42 projects throughout the country.
No doubt this Walk of Dreams foundation will be bigger next year, with more clubs being allocated money for club projects.

 


The John Giles Foundation in association with Three is delighted to announce the first phase of grant allocations from the ‘Walk of Dreams'. The goal of the John Giles Foundation in association with Three is to enhance community cohesion by increasing participation, health and education using football as the vehicle for social inclusion.

The ‘Walk of Dreams' raised over €360,000 for Clubs and Communities throughout Ireland with the Foundation receiving €180,000 for spending on community based football projects. In the first phase of funding, the Trustees of the John Giles Foundation have allocated over €100,000 towards 42 community projects the length and breadth of Ireland.

John Giles said "I am delighted that through our first ‘Walk of Dreams', we are in a position to award these grants to help Clubs and Communities across Ireland. I look forward to seeing all of these projects reach completion now and come to fruition through the work of the John Giles Foundation in association with Three".

Chairman of the John Giles Foundation, John Fitzgerald said "The John Giles Foundation in association with Three was set up to provide assistance to Communities using football as a vehicle for social inclusion. Our first allocation of grants to 42 Community projects is a tribute to John Giles, the Trustees and Sponsors but above all to the hundreds of Clubs and Community groups that walked together on 27th March to achieve this success"

Robert Finnegan, CEO of Three said, "We at Three are delighted to see the response of the football community in raising over €360,000 for football related projects all over Ireland. Three are dedicated to Irish football, from Giovanni Trapattoni and the senior international team to the grassroots of every football club in the country and the many volunteers that support the game week in week out."
