24; Team Manager of the Year Sponsored by Umbro
In a year that saw the introduction of 8 team divisions, all leagues proved exceptionally close and were all only decided on the last or second last match day with the exception of the Premier B division which was wrapped up with 4 matches left to play by a side that had already won their divisional Cup,

The Manager of the year award for 2011 goes to Jimmy Flannery, Bangor Hibs

25; Goalkeeper of the Year Sponsored by Pat Quigley

In his first full season in the Super league this young goalkeeper showed maturity beyond his years and a glance at the goals against column for Westport United shows the high achievement of Gary Cunningham, who is the recipient of the goalkeeper of the year award.

26; Special Recognition Awards---------------Brian McHale, Bangor Hibs.

Goals win games is the often heard cry! Any player who scores a hat trick at any level of the game can be justifiably proud of that achievement, to score two is even better, 3 in a row is some achievement…..and so on. The MAFL are tonight marking the unique and remarkable achievement of our own ‘’Super Mac’’ Brian McHale who scored 6 hat tricks in consecutive competitive matches at the start of this year, Well Done Brian and to his Bangor team mates who set up the 18 chances that were expertly dispatched

27; Special Appreciation Award---------------Angelina Nugent, Mid West Radio

The MAFL are especially glad to be able to present this next award…because its recipient gives outstanding service to our game by daily promotion of our sport over the airwaves of Mayo and beyond. It is fair to say that a short number of years ago there was some disquiet expressed by Clubs as to the level of coverage of Soccer on Radio in this region,

Meetings were had and both sides expressed their views following which certain procedures and protocols were put in place. I am sure that you will all agree that procedures and intentions are fine but it takes the person behind the microphone to make things happen…That person is here tonight in the guise of working and some of the credit for that goes to her husband and colleagues in MWR fm.

For her courteous professionalism, fair and balanced reporting, unending enthusiasm for her role in the sporting lives of the people of Mayo and beyond, and her contribution to the promotion of our game we are proud to present Angelina Nugent with this special appreciation award.

28; Outstanding Service Award---------------Tom Kelly

While a year is a long time in politics and sport, 27 years could be described as a lifetime, For his dedicated service to the game of Soccer in Mayo where He served with distinction in a variety of roles including Chairman and most recently Treasurer, up until May of this year. The members of LMC wish to acknowledge the outstanding service given by Tom Kelly by making this presentation tonight.

29; Walk of Dreams Cheques---------------Ballyglass, Castlebar Celtic,

Charlestown Athletic, Kiltimagh/Knock Utd.

30; Personality of the Year;….Noel Barrett, Glenhest Rovers

It is often said that in adversity true characters come to the fore …

At the start of this season with an established club of over 30 years facing extinction a number of people put their shoulders to the wheel to save the day, one, however stood out and a resilient personality dedicated to our game shone through.

The work and effort put in to get the Club back on the rails and competing was ultimately rewarded with a league and cup double later in the season…The award for ‘’Personality of the Year for 2011’’goes to someone who is known throughout the game as ‘’Black Noel’’

Noel Barrett of Glenhest Rovers.

=========================================================

31; Secretary of the Year….Gerry Kirby, Fahy Rovers

A Club secretary’s job is undoubtedly one of the most time consuming role in football administration especially where a club caters for all ages from 8 to 48!

For his efficiency and professionalism shown through all his dealings with the League Management committee during the season the award for secretary of the year for 2011 goes to Gerry Kirby of Fahy Rovers

=========================================================

32; Club of the Year;………Perputal shield +€300

The annual Club of the year award is decided using the same criteria as laid down by the FAI for the overall club of the year:

Facilities, Administration, Coaching, Participation, Good Practice, Performance, Contribution to the Community

In a year that all of the above have been met admirably the award for club of the year goes to

Bangor Hibernians.

==========================================================

33; Hall of Fame………….…P.J. Duffy, Conn Rangers
History will show that when his club made their first foray into competitive soccer he was named as 12 th man,

Nobody present on that fateful day in 1971 could have foreseen the impact this man would have on the landscape of our sport. Passionate, Dedicated, Determined, An achiever, are words that could be used to describe him. He is someone who goes about his business with a ready smile and has made many friends in the game,

Now 41 years after that debut and with a lifetime of dedicated service to his Club, to His League, and to our game in general the entrant to the Mayo League Hall of Fame for 2011 is Conn Rangers’ PJ Duffy .

34; Footballer of the Year…..Ronan O’Boyle, Castlebar Celtic

In choosing the footballer of the year for 2011 the selection committee were faced with a number of outstanding candidates

From a young Goalkeeper who kept more than his fair share of clean sheets in his first full season, to an inspirational Centre Half who led his team to the Super League, to a mid field playmaker in the mould of John Giles, to a goal scorer supreme who averaged almost 2 goal per league game, However the performance of one player stood out above all others ,equally comfortable in midfield of attack, good with both feet the scorer of crucial winning goals the footballer of the year for 2011 is a BLUE(that’s an Everton Supporter)and a RED(that’s the colour of his hair) Known throughout the game as simply ‘’Boyler’’ Ronan O Boyle.
