Anne Ronayne and Family Star

'Mayo Sports Partnerships' Community Project Worker Anne Ronayne along with her husband Seamus and two sons Josh (21) and Jack (14) are part of the new TV Series on RTE 1 'Irelands Fittest Family' Series.

The Ronaynes were selected from over 130 families who applied to be part of the show and are the only family from the West of Ireland in the competition.

As they fly the flag for County Mayo they are now down to the final 7 families in a bid to win the title of 'Irelands Fittest Family' along with the €15,000 prizemoney.

The Ronaynes coach is non other than all Ireland Winning Player and Manager Davy Fitzgerald who in this Saturday evenings show puts them through their paces in a tough gruelling battle with the other families.

Anne is no stranger to tough challenges having participated in Gaelforce many times, ran 14 marathons, was part of the 12 climbs in 24 challenge of Croagh Patrick as well as still playing ladies GAA for Davitts. Seamus Josh and Jack are avid sportsmen with their passion for GAA, Rugby, Soccer and Golf evident in their local involvement with Davitts GAA Club, The Claremorris Colts Rugby Club and Claremorris Soccer and Golf clubs.

"The Irelands Fittest Family show has taught us a lot about ourselves. We have realised how much sport is part of our lives and how passionate we are about it.

The show although very tough gave us a wonderful opportunity to meet some amazing people. The mentors Davy Fitzgerald, Eddie O' Sullivan, Kenneth Egan and Nikki Symons are extremely talented sportspeople and this was an opportunity of a lifetime for us. Having Davy as our coach is really the icing on the cake for us. He is relentless, tough, takes no excuses but as a coach he is incredible! The other families were amazing too and although we competed at a high level we also had great time, plenty of wholesome fun and its great to be part of that! "

The Staff of Mayo Sports Partnership would like to wish Anne and all the Ronaynes the very best of luck on Saturday evening. Hopefully we will see them in the weeks to follow.

The show airs on Saturday evenings at 7.30pm on RTE 1 at 7.30pm and repeated on Sundays at 4.55pm.
