Browsing through some photos recently I came across the following three photos that might be of interest to all cycling fans young and old in Castlebar. |
Castlebar was always renowned for it's proud cycling tradition and produced many great cyclists down through the years.
There was great rivalry between Westport, Ballina and Eire Og cycling club in Sligo over many years. |

Castlebar is a town that was always very supportive of Ireland's premier cycling race the Ras Tailteann and hosted many stage ends of that great race in Castlebar.
Cyclists in the Ras always enjoyed coming and staying in Castlebar and got great hospitality shown to them from the people of the town.
Many businesses in town gave great support to the local commitee in getting the stage finish for Castlebar over many years. |
After all the years of cycling it's great to see another revival of cycling in Castlebar by Castlebar Wheelers who have numerous potential cycling stars gracing our streets and roads on their gleaming bikes and their 'rainbow' jerseys of many colours.
Long may cycling continue to flourish in Castlebar.
