Castlebar is gearing up to welcome women from all over Ireland for the 6th Western People West of Ireland Women's Mini-Marathon on Sunday 3rd May.

To date the mini marathon has raised more than €1.2 million for good causes, benefits local sports organisations, helps to deliver participation programmes for people with a disability / other target groups and also brings benefits to the local economy. It's a win win for all concerned.

Olympic Medalist Sonia O'Sullivan is the special guest at this year's event joining over 2000 other women in a festive and fun 10k event around the county town.

As well as Sonia herself participating some top elite runners bidding to win the 2015 Women's Mini Marathon crown will be two times winner of the women's mini marathon Collette Tuohy of Mayo AC, Nora Newcombe of Mayo AC, Regina Casey of Galway City Harriers and past winner Lizzie Lee of Leevale AC on the back of her 34:18 finish in the Dublin Great Ireland Run in on April 11th this year. The Women's competitive side of the event should prove to be a very exciting competition. We look forward and welcome all participants to Castlebar.
