Mayo Sports Partnerships 2018 Autumn Training & Events Programme Now Available

Safeguarding 1, 2 & 3 Child Protection in Sport, sports first aid, sports leadership training, coach education, walking leader training, disability inclusion training, club development workshops and leader training for volunteers working with older people groups are just some of the upcoming sports volunteer training courses which will be available through Mayo Sports Partnership over the coming months. These courses/seminars are aimed at community/sport volunteers, coaches, teachers or indeed anyone who may have an interest in sport or physical activity. With a Community Sports Coach Programme taking place in Castlebar this Autumn several sports specific coach education modules will be open to the public. Introductory level coaching courses will be available for GAA, Soccer, Rugby, Athletics, Basketball and Boxing. Indeed the boxing course will be the first of its kind in the country and will be based at the new regional centre for the sport in Lough Lannagh Castlebar. Mayo Sports Partnership are also scheduling a series of child centred coaching children and physical literacy workshops which will introduce sports coaches to physical literacy through sport, coaching children how to move and think. These workshops are aimed at anybody who works with children in sport / physical activity ie sports coaches, teachers, youth leaders, community workers etc.

As part of European Week of Sport 22nd - 30th September 2018, a Be Active Night is to take place in Ballinrobe on Saturday 29th. Coinciding with the formal switch on of the improved lighting at the Green Ballinrobe by Minister Ring events will include a fun 5K, Family Golden Mile, Family Sports Activity Challenge organised by sports clubs in the town, Adventure Zone and much more. Sport Ireland are calling on sports clubs / groups to register events for this celebration of sport across the European Union. Social Inclusion Awareness Week takes place from 15th - 21st October 2018. The aim of the week is to support and organise initiatives throughout the county that foster inclusion, equality and social connectedness. It is an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of people in County Mayo, to showcase the work of your organisation and/ or to organise a special activity or event which promotes inclusion. As part of the weeks activities Mayo Sports Partnership is hosting an Autism in Sport Workshop on Monday 15th October plus a Go for Life Games Day for Older People Groups on Wednesday 17th October with both events taking place in An Sportlann, Castlebar. In addition Ballinrobe Sports Hub in conjunction with An Tacu Family Resource Centre and Ballinrobe Golf Club are organising a Golf Course Heritage Walk, Talk & Come and Try event on Thursday 18th October from 5.45pm to 7.45pm.
