Sports / Activity Leadership Course for Westport

Want to set up some general sports activities in your community? Working with young people or other groups? Just want to update your range of skills? If you often wondered how could you become a qualified Sports / Activity Leader then we may have the solution.

The Mayo Sports Partnership is due to hold a Sports Leadership Training course in Westport GAA Centre on Friday 2nd October (evening) 6pm - 9pm and Saturday 3rd October 9am - 4pm.

This non sports specific course has a nominal cost of €20 and will lead to a certified sports leader award which is recognised by the Irish Sports Council. Participants will be brought through a series of theoretical and practical exercises which will improve communication, observation and group management skills. These three skills are at the core of sports leadership training. At the end of the course leaders will be able to plan, lead and co-ordinate a safe and fun Sports For All session which all members of your community will be able to participate in.

One of the reasons for drop off in sport amongst young people is a bad experience in sport at a very young age and also being over exposed to competition at the wrong time in their life. This training aims to give young people a very positive experience and thus giving them a chance to feel good about themselves.

People who may have a bit more time on their hands or volunteering may be particularly interested in gaining this type of qualification and putting it in to practice in their local community or club. Sport / physical activity is a growth area in the current economic climate and local community centres are always on the lookout for physical activity opportunities for all sectors of the population eg Young People, Women, Older People, People with Disabilities, Youth at Risk etc

Information on this course or any other workshops may be obtained by contacting the Mayo Sports Partnership at 094 9047025. You can also download entry forms etc at www.mayosports.ie/CoursesandEventsEventsCalendar/
