Mayo Sports Partnership launches Spring 2015 Training / Events Programme

Child Protection in Sport, Sports First Aid, Cycling Leader training, Sports Leadership Training, Funding Workshops and Disability Inclusion Training are just some of the upcoming sports volunteer training courses which will be available through the Mayo Sports Partnership over the coming months. These courses / seminars are aimed at community sport volunteers, coaches or indeed anyone who may have an interest in sport / physical activity. Dates and venues are mainly finalized with a full listing now available online. To view list of courses go to www.mayosports.ie/CoursesandEventsEventsCalendar/

Included in the new training programme is a new pilot initiative targeting teenagers titled "Active Teens". This initiative plans to train a team of junior activity leaders in four second level schools who will implement extra curricular activities targeting inactive teenagers. This is a unique programme which Mayo Sports Partnership are hoping will give schools an extra option in providing additional physical activity opportunities other than normal P.E.

Following the huge interest generated by the Operation Get Active Mayo programme co-ordinated by the Partnership there is significant interest amongst communities to get leaders trained to lead activities locally. If you are interested in being a community sports leader organising activities which would be fun and non sports specific then the Active Leadership training course might interest you. This Friday evening and all day Saturday course is Irish Sports Council accredited and will take place in March where participants are taught the skills of communication, observation and group management.

The Western People West of Ireland Womens Mini Marathon will be launched in early February and will this year be linking strongly with the celebration of "Mayo Day" which takes place on the May Bank Holiday Weekend. Now in its 6th Year will be once again sponsored by Connaught Gold and it is hoped to have Olympic Silver Medallist Sonia O Sullivan on board once again along with other personalities. Following the huge success of the inaugural kids Mini Mini Marathon ie 2K fun event it is planned along with our organising partners Davitt College Transition Years to further develop this initiative. More details later.

If you are interested in any of the above mentioned training you should register your interest as soon as possible with the Partnership as places are limited. All courses are subsidized and participants can book their places on this and other courses events by contacting the office at 094-9047025 or email msp@mayococo.ie
