Occupational Sports First Aid Course

Mayo Sports Partnership will host a two day course in occupational sports first aid on the weekend of Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th October in Ballyheane Castlebar.

Note that this course is offered to Sports Volunteers at a subsidised rate and the fee for this fully certified course is €80. Normal rate is €150 per person. Private individuals working in the sporting arena can also book a place (if available) for a fee of €100. Contact the office at 094-9047025 immediately to book.


Active Leadership Training in Claremorris

Looking for some accredited training in Sports Leadership? If so than this course maybe just what you are looking for.

The Mayo Sports Partnership is to host an active leadership course Friday 14th October 6pm - 9pm and Sat 15th October 9am - 4pm in the Claremorris GAA Centre.

The Active Leader award is designed to provide trained, knowledgeable and enthusiastic community based physical activity leaders. Leaders will be equipped to work in a wide range of locations including local clubs, community groups, workplaces, community centres and sports' clubs. Leaders will also aim to increase participation rates in physical activity in a variety of practical ways including:

§ Encouraging a wide range of people, such as friends, colleagues and contacts to take up active leisure pursuits

§ Applying their knowledge and skills to plan, organise and lead safe, enjoyable activity sessions with small groups and

§ Assisting in the planning, organising and running of community sports days

The intended outcome is that the trainee leader will be competent and confident in taking charge of a group for physical activity sessions. Specifically, the successful leader will be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to plan, organise and lead physical activity sessions within their own group setting. The training courses are organised at local level by Local Sports Partnership. At the start of the course, trainee leaders should be over 18 years and following the course, the successful leader will be able to:

§ Understand their role as a leader and how they will apply it within their organisation

§ Display an ability to plan and lead a fun physical activity session demonstrating leadership skills such as communication, observation and group management

§ Demonstrate an ability to safely lead a group of up to 16 people

The total course will be 10 to 12 hours comprising of practical and theoretical units

Course fee is €20 which is subsidised by the Partnership.

Child Protection in Sport Workshop (Basic Awareness Course) - Safeguarding 1

Mayo Sports Partnership is hosting a 3 hour workshop titled Code of Ethics and Best Practice in Sport - Safeguarding 1 in the Quay Community Centre Westport on Tuesday 18th October 2016. The workshop will take place from 7pm - 10pm. A course fee of €15 per participant applies.

This ‘Child Protection in Sport' training is for Children's Officers and/or Designated Persons, Sports Leaders and other adults involved in the organisation of sport for young people.

The training will enable Children's Officers/Sports Leaders to:

· Implement best practice in protecting the welfare of participants

· Create a child-centred environment within the sports club

· List categories of abuse and some indicators associated with abuse

· Make appropriate response to a disclosure

· Make a report to designated officer or appropriate Statutory Authorities

Disability Inclusion Training (DIT) course

This training course developed by the National Training and Education Working Group for Inclusive Physical Activity, Sport and Physical Education is designed to give participants the ideas, knowledge and confidence to adapt their sessions to make them more accessible for people with disabilities. The workshop will also examine perceptions and experiences in relation to sport and physical activity for people with disabilities and look at disability awareness in terms of legislation, communication and barriers to participation. The training is suitable for Sports Coaches and Instructors, Disability Service Staff, Sport leaders, Parents, Volunteers and anyone interested or involved in the provision of Sport and Physical Activity for people with disabilities. The workshop will include both theory and practical elements.
