The Castlebar web site www.castlebar.ie is run primarily by our volunteers - all content written and photographic is provided free of charge and editing, uploading of files, etc. is now carried out by unpaid volunteers. The site is supported also through our hosting activities with approximately 200 other domain names now hosted here in Castlebar. Our advertisers are now one of the main sources of income needed to pay for the fast broadband connection to the Internet from Castlebar - currently costing some 40,000 euros per annum.
In September 2002 we had over 110,000 visits to www.castlebar.ie each lasting over 12 minutes and reading over 600,000 pages. This is a phenomenal amount of traffic for a small town. According to web traffic statistics our traffic exceeds the traffic to the 2FM website RTEs flagship music station. Most of the visits came from local people living in County Mayo.
