ISABELA BASOMBRIO-HOBAN

Art

"Isabela's work shows her ability to turn mundane objects into expressive art that is imaginative in the realm of deeper truths. Both her paintings and assemblages evoke a sense of mystery, immortality and religious iconography which is ever present in her work. Issues dealing with grief, death, life, birth and re-birth are strongly presented and blurred together. Her art represents various emotional states which make the actual objects used merely representational. These evocative works allow the viewer a chance to share the deeper, hidden side of a complex artist who gives us an opportunity to see the beauty in the ungraspable."
Marianne Letasi, Curator, The City Gallery, Dearborn Arts Council, Michigan
"This body of work combines forms and surfaces that resist our desire for meaning-making. The aesthetic speaks to our hopes and fears; these works are life-affirming. The strength of Isabela’s art is in the contribution of each element to a cohesive whole. We are drawn to its fidelity. Plumbing the contents, we understand on a level that is deeper than words."
Jane Eby PhD, Artist and Community Psychologist.

"Trying to deal with the truth, implies that I’m not able to fulfill an artist’s statement, the nature of the art being impermanent, transcient and centered on the unseen implies connection through seeing and feeling, not through verbal, written or conceptual ideas"
